This intersession looked at our ocean health and relationship between ocean users (surfers, swimmers, etc) and our environment. We as students were introduced to local surfboard craftspeople who are emphasizing using sustainable materials in their designs. We screened two films: Manufacturing Stoke and What the Sea Gives Me during the week. We shaped and design our own bodysurfing handplanes and Hawaiian Paipo. This intersession was a great way to introduce design concepts, craft, hydrodynamics, and as well as conduct a community beach clean up service project. The picture and video below show just a sliver of what was accomplished and learned in just one week under the guidance of Mr. Sevilla.
